
Summer Firefly Celebration
Overview
Join us for an enlightening event that celebrates the lives of fireflies in all their luminescent diversity. Blaine Rothauser and Nicolette Albanese, ecologists for GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc., will give a brief presentation about the life cycle, history, and role fireflies play in the environment, as well as how to make your backyard more “firefly friendly.” This presentation will be followed by a hands-on experience of catching and identifying different species of fireflies through the observation of their flight and flash patterns and morphological traits. You will not want to miss this illuminating event!
- Ages 8 and Up

What To Bring
Dress for a relaxing evening. Bring folding chairs for the presentation. Flashlights and close-toed shoes are recommended for getting around safely. Bug spray may also help keep you comfortable if the biting insects are out and about.

Nicolette Albanese
Nicolette Albanese, an Ecologist at GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc., with a focus on restoration ecology and rare species, holds a Biology degree from Montclair State University. Her expertise includes amphibian studies, vernal pool assessments, land use permitting, ecologic restoration, rare species surveys, vegetative community surveys, entomological studies, wildlife impact reports, biodiversity baseline assessments, and more.
